Shehbaz Sharif will be opposition's nominee for PM post, announces Zardari

  • BAP decides to support the opposition's no-confidence motion against PM Imran
Published March 28, 2022

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari announced on Monday that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif will be the opposition's joint candidate for the prime minister's post after the passing of the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Zardari made the announcement while addressing a joint presser with Shehbaz Sharif, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and leaders of the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), which has also decided to support the opposition's no-confidence motion against PM Imran.

Speaking on the occasion, BAP’s Parliamentary Leader Khalid Magsi said that at least four Members National Assembly (MNAs) of their party would vote in favour of the no-trust motion.

PTI announces Pervaiz Elahi as Punjab chief minister candidate

Magsi added that BAP was part of the government for more than three years, insisting that he would not speak against PM Imran.

He, however, said that the decision to join the opposition parties was taken in good faith and in the larger interest of the party, and the province.

Earlier today, Usman Buzdar stepped down as the Punjab chief minister, as the ruling party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), looked to garner support ahead of the no-confidence vote.

The ruling party has decided to support Chaudhry Pervez Elahi as its candidate for Punjab chief minister after Buzdar's resignation.

Reports indicate PML-Q has also accepted the PTI's offer to nominate Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi as a candidate for Punjab chief minister.
