In a neck-to-neck contest, the NDA and the Grand Alliance seemed confident of winning the polls. When the initial results started coming, RJD-led Grand Alliance was seen as a winning side with 75 seats. However, the NDA took the lead after majority of the results were declared. The BJP won 74 while JD(u) got 43 seats. The congress managed to secure a humble 19 seats.

However, counting is still going on in a few cities till filing of this report.

Meanwhile, media reported that Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad gave the credit of NDA's Bihar victory to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
