ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) put the names of suspended cricketers, who are under investigation for the Pakistan Super Leagues (PSL) spot-fixing scandal, on the Exit Control List (ECL) on Monday.
According to Express News, the news came after Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar approved FIAs request to bar all those cricketers from leaving the country.
In a letter, FIA asked the ministry to prevent the tainted players from travelling abroad till the investigation is completed.
Five players Nasir Jamshed, Muhammad Irfan, Shahzaib Hassan, Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif are currently under investigation by the anti-corruption unit of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
FIA has already issued notices to four cricketers Sharjeel, Jamshed, Khalid and Irfan.
On March 16, the players were directed by the FIA to appear before the agency on March 20 and 21 to record their statements.
Earlier, Shahzaib was provisionally suspended and charged with violations of Code Articles 2.1.4, 2.4.4 and 2.4.5 and. However, unlike Khalid Latif and Sharjeel Khan who were provisionally suspended by the PCB, he and Irfan were not suspended and were allowed to continue playing for their respective teams.
Later on Muhammad Irfan was suspended by the PCB, and a charge sheet was submitted against him.
The investigation into the spot-fixing scandal is being carried out by the FIA on the formal request of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
