The World Bank (WB) will assist federal government to run Railways on modern lines, Business Recorder reliably learnt. "In this regard, the team of World Bank will arrive on August 22 to hold talks with Railway authorities", official sources said.
Sources told this scribe on Saturday World Bank has shown keen interest in development of railway sector and offered its services to turn Pakistan Railways into State Corporation.
Sources revealed the government was committed to provide safe and standard travelling facilities to the masses and it would take all necessary steps to improve present infrastructure of Railway.
They said the ministry has sent a summery to the Prime Minister and it would be forwarded to cabinet for approval.
Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Railways Shamim Haider will meet with British High Commissioner Mark Lyall Grant here on Monday (Tomorrow).
The government official said they would discuss matters pertaining to mutual interest and the railway sector improvement.
The official said recent train accident at Sarhad Railway Station and participation of private sector in running freight and passenger trains would also be discussed in that meeting.
