The government has decided to establish criminal investigation department (CID) in Northern Areas besides empowering Northern Areas Legislative Council (NALC). The decision was taken here in a meeting with the Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on chair. Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Northern Areas, Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat, Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, force commander, inspector general police, deputy chief executive and chief secretary NAs, secretary KANA division and other higher officials of law enforcement agencies also attended the meeting.
According to sources, the other major decisions taken in the meeting were deployment of heavy paramilitary contingents in the two districts including Gilgit and Skardu, establishment of criminal investigation department, settling the controversial syllabus issue, empowerment of NAs legislative council, reshuffling and changes at the higher level in NAs administration, increasing in police force & deployment of Rangers from Sindh.
It is learnt that the law and order situation in the NAs was deteriorating day by day, while both rival groups are actively engaged in assembling weapons to face any possible incidence ahead. One sect has also announced to demonstrate a gigantic procession on March 21.
Sources said that the Prime Minister has given directives to send heavy contingents to the area prior to any another dire consequences, and also directed the minister Faisal Saleh Hayat to visit the area to condole with the bereaved families.
Sources added that the Prime Minister has given directives to recruit more police force and also arrange deployment of Rangers from Sindh to maintain law and order in the area.
It was also learnt that the Prime Minister has also favoured to give the administrative and legislative powers to the local representatives, which was a long aspiration of the people of the area to exercise it according to the changing circumstances.
The controversial syllabus issue, from where the sectarian issue raised, was also discussed in the meeting and it was decided to formulate new syllabus acceptable for all groups.
