Playing online video games is a favorite hobby for most of the tech smart teens. Finally hours spent on playing games has paid off as it makes teenagers smarter improve their math, science and reading skills.
This surprising revelation comes from a new study, however, hours spent on Facebook is simply wasted as it can lead to bad results in studies. As per Khaleej Times, the students who played online games almost every day score 15 points more than average in mathematics and 17 points above the average in science, revealed the findings.
“When you play online games you’re solving puzzles to move to the next level and that involves using some of the general knowledge and skills in mathematics, reading and science that you’ve been taught during the day,” said Alberto Posso, Associate Professor at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia.
However, Facebook and other social media sites were causing a drop in curriculum performance among teenagers, reported the Daily Mail. As the study revealed that students who used Facebook or chat every day scored 20 points less in mathematics than students who never used social media.
“Students who are regularly on social media are, of course, losing time that could be spent on study - but it may also indicate that they are struggling with maths, reading and science and are going online to socialise instead,” he explained.
