Seven people were killed Saturday after fire swept through a Portugal-registered oil tanker undergoing repair at Singapore's Keppel shipyard, a company spokeswoman said.
Keppel spokeswoman Grace Chia said the bodies of seven subcontract workers from the Wah Soon Marine Pte Ltd carrying out work on the Almudaina had been recovered.
They were all foreigners but their identities could not be immediately released as their bodies were being identified, the company said.
"The fire broke out shortly after 1:00 pm (0500 GMT). We are still investigating. We believe that the fire started at the starboard side of the vessel," she told AFP.
She said the tanker was not carrying any oil at the time of the fire as it was undergoing repair.
Nelson Yeo, executive director of the shipyard, said "presently, we are working with the authorities to establish the cause of the fire."
A member of a civil defence search and rescue team was injured.
