Another five people have been died of heatstroke while 23 fainted in Punjab on Sunday and now death toll rose to 15 as the mercury rose to 47.1 degree Celsius in Multan, 47.3 in Bahawalpur and 47.6 in Dera Ghazi Khan.
"We have received reports of deaths of five persons while 23 persons fainted in different parts of the Punjab. Three in Gujranwala district, one each in Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan during last 24 hours," health authorities said.
Ten persons have already been died of heat strike in Punjab during last week. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said that at least 5 degree Celsius temperature increased in south Punjab due to the installation of furnace-oil- fired thermal power stations, fertiliser factory, and other industry
"We are receiving more than a dozen heat stricken people in an emergency ward of Nishtar Hospital, however no casualty was occurred so far.
At least 15 casualties were reported in different parts of Punjab province including from Okara, Fazal Karim, Renala Khurd, Haseeb-16, Nehang-pur, Nematullah, Zafarwal, Ansar Ali, Bhalwal, Khan Muhammad, Kotadu, Bashir Ahmed Malik, Chiniot, a minor child-two women, three from Gujranwala, one each in Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan," said Professor Shabbir Nasir, Principal of NMC.
He advised the people not to come out of their shelter without covering their heads with towel or cloth, use maximum water, not to use cut fruits, ice-balls, unhygienic drinks.
Met office forecast dry and hot weather during next 24 hours in Multan division and said that temperature may increase to 50 degree Celsius during the current month and June.
