The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed a constitutional petition filed by All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) against the implementation of 7th Wage Board Award.
The Supreme Court bench, after four days of continuous hearing, in its short judgement said that the APNS petition is not maintainable under Article 184 (3) of the Constitution.
The bench comprised Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Muhammad Raza Khan and Justice Falak Sher.
The Supreme Court in its short order said, "For the reasons to be recorded later on instant petition under Article 184 (3) of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan is not maintainable, therefore, the same is dismissed.
Petitioners may avail of appropriate remedy before the competent forum, if desired or advised, in accordance with the law. No order as to costs." The APNS filed a constitution petition in the Supreme Court under Article 184 (3) challenging the implementation of 7th Wage Board Award for newspaper employees.
Senior Advocate Abdul Hafeez Pirzada represented the APNS, Senior Advocate Abid Hasan Minto, Senior Advocate Sheikh Muhammad Akram, Raja Akram and Naseer Ahmed Bhutta represented different groups of newspaper employees, while Raja Arshad, Deputy Attorney General, appeared on behalf of the Information and Broadcasting and Labour ministries.
