President General Pervez Musharraf has expressed the hope that the current Pakistan-India cricket series will serve as a precursor for better relationship between the two South Asian countries in future.
He was speaking to members of both the cricket teams who were invited by him at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Wednesday.
Referring to the results of the first two closely contested One Day Internationals, the President said the wins by each team emanate the message that in politics give-and-take is the answer to harmony, better understanding and better relationship.
The President remarked that quality of play has been exceptionally high in the first two games with some outstanding individual performances by the cricketers of either team.
Musharraf praised both the teams for playing the matches in the best of spirit.
Both sides have proved that they are highly competent outfits, he said and underlined that Pakistan and India can attain still higher standards in the sport if they play each other regularly.
"I congratulate both the teams for playing exceptionally well-the matches have been exciting and extremely enjoyable for the cricket followers," he added.
He advised the players they should not let tension get better of them as it affects their performance.
Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri, Minister for Sports Raees Munir Ahmad, Pakistan's High Commissioner in New Delhi Aziz Ahmad Khan, Indian High Commissioner in Islamabad Shiv Shankar Menon, Chairman PCB Sheharyar Khan, Chief Executive PCB Ramiz Raja, managers, and coaches of the two teams were also present during the meeting.
