Speakers at a seminar underlined the need of spending at least two percent of the annual income of the industrial unit on the health of the workers, as their health could be prevented from dangerous diseases.
The three-day seminar for chemical workers on "Occupational Safety Health" was organised by All Pakistan Federation of Trade Unions (APFTU) at a local hotel.
Central leaders of APFTU and delegates from all over the country joined the event and discussed length of issues relating to the health of factory workers.
Additional General Secretary APFTU, Osama Tariq said that the mishaps were getting increase all over the world, and according to estimate at least three fatal incidents occurred in the world, and in every three minutes a labour was loosing his life in the industrial unit.
"New chemicals are being invented, and their use have become integral part of the domestic life. Still there are a number of chemicals, of which after effects are yet to know. New chemical industry is being established but workers remained untrained. Due to lack of awareness workers used to suffer fatal disease and consequently, loss their lives", he said.
Expressing concern over the misuse of factory workers, APFTU Additional Secretary stated that most of the factory owners did not get enrolled their factory workers with Social Security Department.
He said that contrary to the strong recommendations of the World Health Organisation (WHO), factory workers were not being provided with the hygienic atmosphere at their workplace. "According to the international standards it was necessary to take precautionary measures to avert any untoward incident in the workplace."
He demanded of the government to take appropriate measures for the implementation of the international standards in the factory which ensure the safety of the workers.
Jalil Shah, Joint President, APFTU; Abdul Razzaq Memon, Vice President, APFTU; Syed Hameed Ahmed, and Raees Mian of Pakistan Telecommunication Lions Unity also spoke.
