JEONGSEON: Kjetil Jansrud of Norway captured Alpine ski World Cup men's downhill race in South Korea on Saturday for his first downhill victory of the season.
The 2014 Olympic downhill bronze medalist posted the time of 1 min 41.38 sec to win the first official race at Jeongseon Alpine Centre in South Korea, which is hosting the World Cup as a test event for the 2018 Winter Games.
Dominik Paris of Italy finished second by 0.2 second, followed by Steven Nyman of the United States at 1:41.79.
Jansrud topped both training sessions earlier in the week, and picked up where he left off in the race that counted.
"Coming into the season, I wasn't as confident as I was last season," said Jansrud, who has had one other podium finish in downhill this season.
"I've had some issues and mistakes, and this is the first run of the season where I've skied without any mistakes."
Jansrud started 18th among 54 and squeezed past the time posted by Paris right before him. He can make it two in a row on Sunday in Super-G, where he's ranked third in World Cup points this season.
For Paris, it was the first World Cup of the season.
"I like the hill; it's pretty cool," Paris said. "It's a fun course. There are a lot of jumps. Snow preparation was very good
