imageLAHORE: BISP Chairperson Marvi Memon Sunday said PML-N government believed in promoting regional languages as these languages provided a binding force for national integration.

Addressing a seminar cum debate "Emerging Pakistan" at Al-Hamra Art Council here, she said that regional languages provided identity to the ethnic groups and regional languages should be given respect these deserve.

The BISP Chairperson said acknowledging the regional languages was necessary for our goal of "One State Nation" which we have achieved.

The chairperson said she had tabled a bill in the parliament seeking status of national language for regional languages which was rejected due to difference of opinion.

She said main purpose of the bill was to recognise importance of all regional languages by declaring them as national languages.

Regarding implementation of the 18th Amendment, she said the government was not taking anything back from the provinces which were guaranteed to them but there were some problems in the implementation of the 18th amendment and these would soon be resolved.

"I am proud to be part of BISP as it is one of the five biggest social security networks in the world and I am working day and night to alleviate poverty and ensure equity among all provinces" she added.

The government and the military were on the same page regarding action against the extremism and terrorism while the people, the armed forces and the other law enforcement agencies had rendered great sacrifices in rooting out this menace, she said, adding that the whole nation paid rich tributes to the martyrs.

To a question, the chairperson said PTI chairman Imran Khan had tried to derail democracy in the country through politics of sit-ins and protests but his conspiracy was foiled by the masses.

Highlighting the performance of BISP, she said this social security network was taking care of about 5.15 million women, adding efforts were being made to empower and educate women for the development and progress of the country.
