imageKARACHI: Federal Minister for Ports & Shipping, Kamran Michael has assured all support to strengthen shipping and logistics support services in the country with equal attention towards infra structure.

Addressing the concluding ceremony of the 5th Professionals Shipping, Logistics & Supply Chain Management Conference & Exhibition Wednesday evening, he said concerns expressed and recommendations forwarded by the speakers during the conference will be accorded due attention.

Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping assuring that grievances of the business community will be addressed in particular context of the growth and development of warehousing and port in the country.

Mentioning that he was fully conscious that supply chain management depends on out-sourcing, he said facilitation to all those associated with the shipping and logistics sector has to be streamlined.

Ateeq Ur Rehman, representing professionals associated with the sector referred to misplaced priorities and negligence in the shipping, logistics and warehousing industry of Pakistan.

He requested the government to reduce the burden of the supply chain management entrepreneurs enhanced through varied indirect taxes.

Rehman particularly sought reduction in the custom duty on the import of pre engineered building (warehouse) and suggested that this be placed on zero rating, so as to encourage the growth of warehousing in the country.

The ceremony among others was also attended by Chairman of Karachi Port Trust, Vice Admiral Shafqat Javaid.

Earlier in the day CEO of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), S. M. Muneer inaugurated the conference and was attended by Consul General of Switzerland in Karachi, Emil Wyss, Consul General of Indonesia, H.E Hadi Santoso, Executive Director of PNSC, Brig. Rashid Siddiqui, Chairman Air Cargo Agents Association of Pakistan, Farukh Iqbal, General Manager, PIA, Sohail Yaqoob Abid, Director Supply Chain of Getzs Pharma, Mohammed Hanif Ajari, Managing Director, Ravian international, Abdul Majeed Paracha, CFO of Bayer Pakistan, Ziad Chaudhry and others.

Mehmood Tareen Founder & CEO of The Professionals Network and the organizer of the conference thanked participants and facilitators for their valuable support in making the conference successful and result oriented.

He promised to continue with his efforts for the betterment of supply chain solutions.
