imageISLAMABAD: Around 200 women and men from North-Waziristan Agency (NWA), temporarily residing in District Bannu due to ongoing Operation Zarb-e-Azab, will be imparted employable skills training and employment facilitation.

The two United Nations organizations - United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and International Labour Organization (ILO) have joined hands to initiate the process under Community Resilience Project for NWA Displaced Families.

In his comments on the development, UNDP Country Director, Marc-Andr? Franche elaborated that UNDP and ILO have been jointly working for Early Recovery Frameworks in the post-crises situations in Pakistan.

The two Agencies are actively collaborating under Community Restoration (CoRe) Cluster and there is a history of two agencies working together for livelihood recovery and rehabilitation in the country.

He said in view of previous work of ILO and UNDP on Labour Market Information & Analysis (LMIA), Community Based Livelihood Recovery Programme (CBLRP) and ongoing work on early-recovery framework for Pakistan, the current project will prove to be another milestone which will facilitate the disadvantaged families from North-Waziristan in finding decent employment opportunities.

The new project will engage the locally available government and private training institutions as well as the civil society organizations with ample experience of organizing good quality vocational training and provision of post-training support in case of emergencies.

Major focus will remain on training maximum number of `construction workers' who would be required to take part in reconstruction of the NWA area where most of the existing buildings, houses, and other infrastructure has been damaged.

Apart from that, separate training courses for women would be organized at most convenient locations for them to actively participate and learn new skills for increasing family income.

The trained women and men would be supported for employment by the ILO's existing Emergency Employment Information Centre (EEIC) in Bannu District through job-search, setting up enterprises and bridging with local employers.

The EEIC has, as of today, registered more than 900 women and men who aspire to be employed and facilitated more than 500 of them for different employment opportunities.

The project is part of the response strategy evolved by the Community Restoration (CoRe) Cluster jointly chaired by the Government and UN System and participated by key stakeholders including national and international NGOs.
