KAMPALA: Ugandan police said on Saturday that security was being stepped up at hotels and public places after authorities foiled a suspected "terror plot" in the centre of the capital Kampala.
"We're increasing patrols in the city, major towns and other vulnerable places," Fred Enanga, spokesman for Uganda Police told a press conference in Kampala.
The US Embassy in Uganda had earlier issued a statement saying the Ugandan authorities had uncovered a "terrorist cell" run by the Somali militant Islamist group al Shabaab, which they believed was planning an imminent attack.
It told US citizens to seek shelter while the authorities carry out an operation against the suspected cell.
