ISLAMABAD: Economist Dr. Shahid Hassan Siddiqui has said that lifting of ban on temporary/contract employments in the government departments is a good decision.
Talking to Radio Pakistan, he said that manifesto of PML-N vowed to grant job opportunities to the people and aforementioned decision was in line to fulfil this promise.
He said that two million youths could be provided employment opportunities every year if our economy attains the growth rate of 8% annually.
Economist Dr Salman Shah said that if we need good teachers for our school, competent doctors for our hospitals and personnel for our security forces then the process of recruitment should be carried out constantly.
He said that after 18th amendment a large number of federal government departments were given to the provinces and duplication of government departments should be avoided strictly.
Economist Dr. S. Akbar Zaidi said that government departments are facing acute shortage of staff and due to this their performance also deteriorates.
He said that current recruitment would enhance the capacity of the government departments. It is general perception in the country that private jobs lack security and youth prefer to join government departments for better career, he added.
Speaking in the program, economist Dr. Ayub Mehar also said that the share of private sector in providing jobs to the people is nearly 92% in Pakistan.
He said that appointments were made in government departments on the basis of political favouritism during the previous regime.
He said that observance of strict merit policy during the recruitment process can increase the efficiency of government departments.
