ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmed Thursday informed the Senate that the Cabinet Division had never been the custodian of Abbottabad Commission Report.
Replying to various questions during Question Hour, the Minister said that the report had directly sent to the then Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani by the commission.
He said the incident occurred in May 2011 and the past government was responsible for the report. He said the Cabinet Division had nothing to the said report.
Meanwhile, in response to a Calling Attention Notice regarding process of delimitation of constituencies underway in the country for the upcoming local government elections in the absence of new population census, he said no census had been carried out since 1998 although it was due in 2008.
The minister said it was a very valid calling notice and should be implemented. Country's population has been increased and new census was need of the hour.
He said the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has also sent letter to the Prime Minister in this regard.
The minister said that delimitation for national and provincial constituencies was duty of ECP, while in case of local bodies elections, the respective provincial governments were responsible.
