imageVeteran Jamaican singer John Holt passes away at 69 in London hospital last night.

Holt’s manager confirmed the death of a talented singer to the foreign media saying, “John died at 2:40am English time. His [John’s] nephew informed [us] of his death.” The cause of Holt’s death has yet to be confirmed.

Holt’s early cuts such as ‘Ali Baba’ remain evergreen classics, while even his mixed crossover attempt ‘1000 Volts Of Holt’ in 1974 retains a soulful edge.

According to media reports, crucial figure in Jamaican culture, Holt’s sound was known for its smooth ballad-styled qualities. This morning, the music industry has paid its respects, with Trojan Records hailing him as a ‘huge talent and a true gentleman’.
