LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) Administration Committee will review the establishment of registry counters at five divisional headquarters.

In a letter written to vice chairman Punjab Bar Council and concerned bar presidents, LHC Registrar Shakil Ahmad has informed that the chief justice had ordered to place their joint written application for establishment of registry counters before LHC administration committee for consideration in a week, as the matter require necessary amendment in LHC rules and orders.

Vice chairman PBC on behalf of Dera Ghazi Khan District Bar, Gujranawala District Bar president, Faisalabad District Bar president, Sargodha District Bar president and Sahiwal District Bar president through an application had requested for establishment of registry counters in the concerned divisional headquarters.

The application was presented to the chief justice and two senior most LHC judges on Tuesday in a meeting with the bar representatives who met for resolving the issue of new regional LHC benches.

The lawyers of the said divisions were on strike for last one month for the establishment of new benches of the High Court. They are of the view that for them the access to justice is more expensive, less convenient and manifestly discriminatory compare to other citizens who are residents of Rawalpindi, Multan and Bahawalpur where permanent Benches of the High Court have been established since 1981.

They say the establishment of new benches is definitely a matter of public importance involving enforcement of a number of fundamental rights of the citizens, Article 19A of the Constitution itself guarantees the right to information in all such matters.
