imageISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani, congratulating the Senate members on including them in the Public Accounts Committee, termed the day of victory.

"Today is the day of victory, constitutionalism, federalism and strengthening of democratic system," he said.

Appreciating the role of all members of the Senate in making it a reality, he said the day was also a victory and a vindication that the essence of democracy lies in dialogue and continuous dialogue.

He especially thanked Leader of the House in Senate Raja Zafar ul Haq who played a vital role in the entire process and supported the members at all stages.

Appreciating services of Finance Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Law Minister Zahid Hamid in this regard, he said without their dedication it was not possible.

He said especially Finance Minister Ishaq Dar played role of a bridge between the Government and Upper House of the Parliament to make it a reality.

Stressing the need for resolving all the issues through dialogue, Chairman Senate said it was the dialogue which matured the Charter of Democracy, signed between two arch rivals of that time - PPP, PML-N.

He said today's significant development also came through dialogue.

He expressed the hope that Law Minister would pilot it now in the National Assembly in next session, commencing from August, 1 after amending rules.

The Chairman Senate also called for strengthening Special Committee of the Parliament on Kashmir by making it as Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir, adding that Chairman of the Committee Maulana Fazal ur Rehman and Advisor to the PM on Foreign Affairs had been agreed to it.

Rabbani also called for revival of Parliamentary Committee on National Security and Parliamentary Committee on Law as it was necessary to pass good laws and making expedited its process.

He said wisdom of both the Houses would help legislative process in a better manner.

He urged the Senators to elect their colleagues for the PAC on merit and on party affiliation and consultation which could justify this decision.

Earlier, Senators from both sides of aisle lauded services of Finance Minister Ishaq for playing a vital role in making it a reality and termed it a pride for the entire House. They also termed it an excellent example of team work.

They said the credit goes to the Prime Minister, Finance Minister, Leader of the House, Leader of the Opposition, Chairman Senate and all members of the House for their excellent job in this regard.

The Senators said it would give strength to Senate and strengthen the Federation. They termed it and historic and the biggest decision of Parliamentary history of Pakistan.

Those who spoke included Senators Tahir Hussain Mashhadi, Mushahid Hussain Sayyed, Usman Khan Kakar, Mir Kabir, Azam Khan Swati, Sherry Rehman, Saeed Ghani, Hafiz Hamdullah and Rehman Malik.
