KARACHI: Sindh Governor, Dr. Ishrat- ul- Ebad Khan on Thursday inaugurated the Dow Institute of Health Management urging senior doctors to also equip themselves with the skills of management and administration.
Speaking on the occasion he said there is a great need of healthcare managers and the modern day doctors ought to have additional qualities as administrators and managers at every level.
"Treatment issues and logistic issues are equally important, therefore good hospital administrators and clinical managers are essential for best possible healthcare facilities," said the Governor, also a medical graduate by qualification.
Dr. Ishrat- ul- Ebad, an alumnus of Dow Medical College said DUHS has really proved to be a medical university in the real sense as no domain of health related specialties are left out in which courses may not conducted.
Similarly no treatment related healthcare facilities have been neglected, he acknowledged and appreciated the efforts of Prof. Masood Hameed Khan and his dedicated team in bringing up the university as per international standards.
The Governor who on the occasion also inaugurated Latif Ebrahim Jamal Laboratory and Radiology campus, the new campus for DUHS Diagnostic and Research Laboratory, said laboratory and radiology services offered at extremely economical rates for all socio-economic segments of population is a matter of great pride.
"I am also glad to know that Dow Institute of Radiology is providing round the clock services with three CT and three MRI machines besides other imaging facilities," said Dr. Ishrat- ul- Ebad Khan.
He also appreciated that Dow Lab through its 16 collection points in Karachi and five other in interior Sindh is providing all routine and specialised tests on cost to cost basis.
Vice Chancellor of DUHS, Prof. Masood Hameed Khan said the University established the Institute of Health Management (IHM) a few years ago to promote advanced health services management through programmes and research that provides outstanding practical education to students, create and disseminate applied knowledge, promote the understanding and ethical practice of business and service to the community.
Currently more than 500 students are undertaking various courses at IHM, he said.
Dr. Masood Hameed Khan said keeping in view its vision to serve community healthcare Dow Diagnostic Laboratory & Radiology Setup is providing reliable, high quality diagnostic services of international standard for routine and specialised tests, at extremely economical rates for all socio-economic segments of population.
It has been accredited by Pakistan National Accreditation Council, because of its international standard.
The tests are performed by a team of qualified and experienced technicians, supervised by pathologists, he said.
The formal inauguration programme of Institute of Health Management and Dow Diagnostic & Research Laboratory (LEJ Campus) was also attended by senior faculty members of the University.
