imageISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday allowed the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan (SCBAP) to become party in the case of review petition filed by former Member National Assembly Sumaira Malik challenging lifetime time ban.

The five-member larger bench headed by Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja heard the review petition against disqualification of PML-N's Sumaira Malik from the National Assembly seat.

During the course of proceedings, president SCBA Kamran Murtaza appeared before the bench and informed that SCBA has passed a unanimous resolution and demanded that every client be allowed to change counsel to get justice as it was his due right.

He said that the Bar members also met former Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani with an application to amend Rule 26 of the resolution.

Justice Jawwad remarked that SCBAP can become party in the case by submitting an application.

The court was informed that Sumaira Malik's counsel Iftikhar Jillani refused to follow the case and Sumaira Malik has appointed Asma Jehangir as counsel and submitted application in the review petition for changing of counsel. The court observed that according to Rule 26 the litigant cannot change counsel in the review petition. The hearing of the case was adjourned for indefinite period.
