The CPPA informed that some 33 per cent power was generated by gas and 30 per cent by Furnace oil while hydel share remained 28 per cent during March.

The regulator was further informed that a total of 6735 Gigawatt (GW) electricity was generated during the said period while 10 per cent less electricity was produced from furnace oil.

The CPPA said some 6.48 billion units were sold in March costing Rs 34.96 billion. Owing to reduction in furnace oil prices, the average cost of electricity remained Rs 5.53 per unit against the reference fuel charges Rs 8.9 per unit during the said month.

It was further apprised that fuel prices also witnessed reduction at the international market which resulted in saving of electricity production.

The Chairman also expressed concerns over purchasing electricity from a thermal power plant located at Quetta and observed that the said thermal power plant had not any generation license.
