imageHYDERABAD: The wheat farmers have complained that the gunny sacks are not being distributed among them in Sindh despite the provincial government's announcement to start the process from March 1.

At a meeting of Sindh Chamber of Agriculture here on Sunday, the farmers representatives said 29 days have passed but neither gunny sacks distribution has started nor the wheat procurement centres have been opened.

Speaking on the occasion, the SCA's President Dr Syed Nadeem informed that the provincial government had announced that gunny bags of 100 kilogrammes and 50-kgs would be given free to the farmers. However, the farmers were paying to get these bags, he maintained.

The SCA's General Secretary Nabi Bux Sathio complained that in absence of the government's wheat procurement centres, the wheat farmers were suffering losses by selling their crop at Rs. 1,050 per 40 kg instead of the government rate of Rs. 1,350 per 40 kg.

They urged the Chief Minister to take notice of the delay.

The meeting was attended by the farmers' representatives from Karachi, Sukkur, Ghotki and Sanghar through video conferencing facility.
