PM asks what good are talks when resignation is the only demand of opposition

• The PM has reiterated that he will not resign.
• Opposition and government have reached a deadlock as JUI-F refuses to back down from his demand.

Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Friday that if the only condition of the opposition is that he resigns, then what good is there for talks with them.

The prime minister said this during discussion with the government negotiation committee regarding the Azadi March. The government committee was briefing the prime minister on the latest developments in negotiations with Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

The committee discussed with the premier the terms put forward by the Rahbar Committee. Referring to the oppositions' demand that he resigns, the premier reiterated that he will not hand in his resignation, local media reported. "If the only condition is the resignation, what good are these talks?" the premier said.

After several talks, both the government and the opposition have reached a deadlock as Rehman sticks to his stance of demanding the prime minister's resignation and fresh elections without any role of the army.
