Google unveils new low-cost Pixel phones at its biggest annual conference

As rumored, Google introduced two new mid-range Pixel phones, aimed at photography, at its biggest ever annual conference that kicked off on Monday.

At its three-day-long Google I/O Developers Conference that started on Monday, tech behemoth Google added two new lower-range smartphones to its Pixel flagship, the long rumored Pixel 3a and 3a XL: additions to Google’s current Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL that were introduced last year.

The phones feature latest Android 9.0 Pie, advanced processors with OLED screens. The new Pixel phones come in with 4GB RAM, 64GB un-expandable storage, and unlimited photo storage that too at high quality, reported Engadget.

As of for the camera, the smartphones are aimed for photographers feature a 12.2MP rear lens with an 8MP front one. Google also introduced numerous modes in the phone include ‘Night Sight’ low-light camera mode, ‘Photobooth Mode’, ‘Time lapse’, and ‘Top Shot’ among others. It also it Google Lens integrated in it, which gives users more functionality.

The smaller version Pixel 3a features a 5.6-inch OLED display, and 3,000mAh battery life with fast charging. On the other hand, the larger Pixel 3a XL features a larger 6-inch OLED display with massive 3,700mAh battery life.

Meant to be low-cost, the Pixel 3a starts at $399, whereas the Pixel 3a XL starts at $479. The phones will be available starting today in three different colors including Just Black, Clearly White and Purple-ish.
