After already introducing an incredible foldable phone to the masses, smartphone manufacturer Huawei now claims that after two years, half of its flagship will be foldable.

In a recent interview with GSM Arena, Chinese tech giant Huawei’s CEO Richard Yu commented about the foldable phone technology saying that over the next few years, it will go all-in on foldable phones, making 50% of its flagship of the same tech.

“I think that on a flagship level in two years, half of our devices could be foldable,” Yu exclaimed.

Yu also acknowledged that the technology comes in with a heavy price tag as well. He said, “Foldable phones are just in the beginning and the market share is small, they cost a lot and it’s very expensive to produce such devices.”

“As times fly, the costs will reduce, I think in two years foldable phones will have a similar price to current flagship phones. Still, some people will prefer normal smartphones and others will prefer foldable ones,” he added.

Nonetheless, Yu is optimistic of the fact that the cost will reduce greatly with time. “I think in two years foldable phones will have a similar price to current flagship phones.”

Yu revealed that his primary smartphone at the moment, Huawei Mate X, is still in development, and also discussed about the recently announced Huawei P30 Pro saying, “In the future we can make a foldable phone sized in half of this one [P30], we have plans for a smaller foldable phone.”

With growing technology, many smartphone makers have shifted their attention to foldable phones including Samsung and now, as per leaks, Xiaomi too might join the race.
