The consumer price index (CPI) was recorded at 8.21 percent in February 2019 over February 2018, said Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). According to PBS CPI data released Friday, the CPI in February 2019 increased by 0.64 percent over January 2019, Wholesales Price Index (WPI) increased by 0.90 percent while Sensitive Price Index (SPI) increased by 2.21 percent.
On year-on-year basis, prices of following commodities witnessed an increase: Tomatoes, 179.40 percent; ginger, 16.21 percent; beef, 14.42 percent; sugar, 13.86 percent; tea Lipton, 13.70 percent; mutton, 12.79 percent; gur, 10.82 percent; ghee (loose), 8.30 percent; fish, 7.90 percent; pulse Moong, 7.89 percent; eggs, 7.21 percent; cooking oil, 7.17 percent; rice, 7.16 percent; pulse gram, 6.92 percent; gram whole black, 4.85 percent; milk fresh, 4.04 percent; and wheat, 3.21 percent.
While prices of the following items witnessed a reduction: onion, 32.76, percent; potatoes, 18.71 percent; gram whole yellow, 14.21 percent; LPG, 13.46 percent; chicken, 11 percent; banana, 6.10 percent; garlic, 5.71 percent; bricks, 3.52 percent; CNG, 1.76 percent; iron bar, 1.31 percent; petrol, 0.65 percent; kerosene oil, 0.54 percent; pulse Mash, 0.46 percent; and cement, 0.22 percent.
During July-February 2018-19, prices of the following items recorded an increase:
gas, 53.32 percent; kerosene oil, 27.88 percent; motor fuel, 23.79 percent; transport services, 15.58 percent; tomatoes, 14.11 percent; spices, 12.89 percent; motor vehicles, 12.74 percent; water supply, 12.18 percent; meat, 12.17 percent; education, 11.65 percent; construction input items, 11.09 percent; dry fruits, 10.87 percent; cosmetics, 10.81 percent; personal equipment, 10.60 percent; utensils, 10.58 percent; construction wage rates, 9.66 percent; and chicken, 6.82 percent.
While During July-February 2018-19, prices of the following items recorded a reduction: onions, 28.09 percent; potatoes, 18.24 percent; pulse Mash, 14.32 percent; gram whole, 6.84 percent; pulse Masoor, 4.98 percent; fresh vegetables, 4.08 percent; besan, 3.41 percent; pulse Moong, 1.13 percent; pulse gram, 0.68 percent; eggs, 0.46 percent; and fresh fruits, 0.16 percent.
On month-on-month basis prices of the following commodities witnessed an increase during February over January: tomatoes, 150.04 percent; green chillies, 37.43 percent; pomegranate, 11.24 percent; chicken, 4.17 percent; fish, 2.02 percent; wheat, 1.43 percent; motor cycle, 1.22 percent; mutton, 0.72 percent; pulse Masoor, 0.60 percent; and beef, 0.57 percent.
While prices of the following items recorded a reduction: liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), 13.46 percent; potatoes, 8.98 percent; coaching fee for class IX/X, 8.63 percent; cabbage, 6.50 percent; eggs, 4.08 percent; bricks, 3.52 percent; garlic, 2.97 percent; compressed natural gas (CNG), 1.76 percent; iron bar 1/2, 1.31 percent; petrol, 0.65 percent; kerosene oil, 0.54 percent; cement, 0.22 percent; rice basmati, 385/386 0.21 percent; pulse Mash, 0.19 percent; and gram whole yellow, 0.13 percent.
