World Wide Fund for Nature-Pakistan (WWF-Pakistan) and K-Electric have signed MoU to work towards a climate friendly and "Greener Karachi." Directly impacting 25 million citizens of Karachi, K-Electric holds the environmental charter implemented through the Climate Change Policy. Since more than five years sustainable growth and energy has been imbedded into K-Electric's operations and with this partnership with the WWF, Karachi would compete in this Earth Hour City challenge which has representations from around the world. KE would also plant 20,000 trees for Karachi in partnership with WWF.
The Earth Hour City Challenge has been created to mobilize action and support from around the world. This year 163 cities in the following seventeen countries are participating in the Earth Hour City Challenge; Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Finland, France, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Republic of Korea, South Africa, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Tanzania, Thailand and USA. Speaking on the occasion Hammad Naqi Khan, Director General WWF-Pakistan said that climate change is adversely impacting metropolitan cities especially Karachi. Recent heat wave in the city had caused more than one thousand human mortalities, which is very appalling. This issue could only be tackled by joint efforts of different organizations. He further said that KE is leading the way towards sustainable solutions to deal with this challenge.-PR
