"The Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) will provide free registration to 14,000 uncertified skilled people through the recognition of prior learning programme this year. An encouraging response has been received in the second phase of the programme. During the past two weeks 6,000 uncertified skilled people have been registered across the province with the Trade Testing Board," Tevta Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said this while reviewing the progress on the second phase for uncertified skilled force through Ustad Shagird System, here on Monday at authority's secretariat.
He said, "Under this programme, the uncertified skilled workforce will get certification after passing theory and practical test of concerned trade. After successful launching of the programme in the first phase, 15 demand-driven vocational trades have been offered in the second phase to the workforce working under Ustad Shagird System. This programme was designed as per requirement of national and international market. Candidates having minimum 18 years with two-year industry experience, evidence of any earlier training, record of employment, use of skills and reference from the employer have been registered. Integrated assessment theory and practical are the basis for self-assessment."
It is completely free of cost and helps those who cannot acquire skills from formal technical education system and 15 vocational short courses included auto electrician, auto CAD (civil), machine embroidery, mason, plumber and sanitary installer and many others are being offered for registration.
The certificate will be accepted at national and international level as certified skilled workforce, he added. Chief Operating Officer Jawad Ahmed Qureshi and Tevta officers Abdul Qayyum, Engr Azhar Iqbal Shad, Akhtar Abbas Bharwana, Haroon Naseer, Muhammad Usman Ali, Ayesha Qazi, Sarfraz Anwar, Amir Hasan and Maqsood Ahmed were also present on the occasion.
