ISLAMABAD: Senate House Committee Wednesday accorded approval in principle for the allocation of a site to allow Telenor Pakistan develops a BTS (Base Transceiver Station)/ telecom tower in the Parliament Lodges.

Deputy Chairman Senate Saleem Mandviwalla, who is the Chairman of the Committee, presided over the Senate panel’s meeting.

The Committee reviewed the proposal to allocate a site for the development of BTS site/ installation of a telecom tower by Telenor Pakistan.

The site has been allocated in the Block-G of Parliament Lodges. Before according the approval, discussion with other telecom operators; Jazz, Ufone and Zong, regarding the site allocation to Telenor Pakistan for the development of BTS was also on the Committee’s agenda.

The matter involving the proposed allocation of a site for BTS was referred to the Senate House Committee by Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani last year.

In the Committee’s meeting on October 28 last year, Mandviwalla, the Chairman Senate House Committee said although, no complaint was received regarding the services provided by Telenor Pakistan, yet “no company would be given any special favour in violation of prescribed official rules.”

He said a decision regarding the installation of a telecom tower would be taken in the light of PPRA (Public Procurement Regulatory Authority) rules.

The matter was also taken up with Metropolitan Corporation of Islamabad (MCI).
