ISLAMABAD: The Parliamentary Committee on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) emphasized on early completion of ongoing projects at Gwadar pertaining to development of infrastructure, water, health, provision of energy, and security arrangements in view of the importance of Gwadar port.

In an in camera meeting of the CPEC chaired by Sher Ali Arbab after receiving briefing from relevant ministries and departments remarked that Gwadar is the most important component of the CPEC, as the success of the CPEC is linked with the effective operationalisation of Gwadar.

Therefore, it is mandatory that the ongoing projects at Gwadar pertaining to infrastructure, water, health as well as provision of energy and security arrangements should be completed quickly and effectively, added the committee.

The chairman further directed the Ministry of Interior to ensure that the rights of any citizen must not be violated in the name of security arrangements at Gwadar, and also instructed Gwadar Development Authority to rehabilitate and operationalise the already installed desalination water plants at Gwadar, so that the cost incurred might not go in vain.

The chair also directed the concerned departments to resolve the issues highlighted by worthy members of the Committee, and incorporate their invaluable recommendations, while executing the ongoing projects at Gwadar.

Additionally, the committee asked the concerned ministries, divisions and other quarters to ensure the strongest coordination as any undue delay in completion of projects at Gwadar will not be acceptable. The CPEC will not take off unless every one of us exerts painstaking efforts to achieve its long cherished goals and the coming generation of Pakistan could witness a bright and prosperous future, added the chairman of the parliamentary committee on CPEC.

Earlier, the Committee was briefed by Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) and other departments and ministries regarding the projects, which are in progress at Gwadar including the New International Airport, Desalination Water Plant, 300 MW Power Plant, Pak-China Friendship Hospital and Technical and Vocational Institute, East-Bay Expressway and construction of Breakwaters, Smart Port City Master Plan and proposed Naukundi-Mashkhel-Panjgur road.

The meeting was attended by Noor Alam Khan, MNA, Sadaqat Ali Khan Abbasi, MNA, Mir Khan Muhammad Jamali, MNA, Nafeesa Inayatullah Khan Khattak, MNA, Ghous Bux Khan Mahar, MNA, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, MNA, Zahid Akram Durrani, MNA, and Muhammad Aslam Bhootani, MNA.
