KARACHI: While responding to a suggestion Commissioner Karachi Dr. Suhail Rajput said that establishment of a separate and independent authority for development of Industrial areas sounds a workable idea and suggested it to include it in the Karachi Transformation Plan (KTP).

Speaking at a meeting of Korangi Association of Trade & Industry (KATI), he said that two major projects Malir Expressway and an elevated road in Malir river area would be initiated soon. He said that district coordination committees would also be activated to bring industrialists and representatives of administration to address issues related to industrial areas. He applauded the performance of KITE DMC and termed it as a best performing model for development in industrial areas.

President KATI Saleemuz Zaman urged that five Combined Effluent Treatment Plants had been approved for Korangi and we could not afford any further delay in such projects related to environmental challenges. He said that infrastructure related issues should be addressed on priority basis for the prosperity of economy.

Zubair Chhaya CEO KITE-DMC informed that a 48 inches sewerage line work would be completed in two or three days by KITE. He mentioned that a MoU would soon be signed with administrator Korangi and under that memorandum, district administration would provide its machinery and manpower to resolve sewerage issues and we will bear the cost. He suggested that Sindh government should review the local bodies' law and establish a separate authority for industrial areas.

Zahid Saeed shared details of a proposed urban foresting project.

The Commissioner agreed with a suggestion of establishing a separate authority for industrial area. He said that urban foresting is a workable and well needed project, he suggested drafting a legal document for this so it can be forwarded for the cabinet approval, this step will remove all hurdles in future to pursue the project.

Former Presidents of KATI Farhanur Rehman, Sheikh Fazle Jalil, Danish Khan, Ehtisham Uddin, SM Yahya, Tariq Malik, Administrator Korangi Shahryar Gul Memon and others also attended the meeting.
