ISLAMABAD: A delegation of exporters met Prime Minister Imran Khan here on Thursday and presented to him its proposals on how to increase exports. The delegation comprised representatives of Overseas Chamber of Commerce, Pakistan Business Council, automobile sector, tanners association, hosiery, fisheries, garments, pharmaceutical industries, steel and textiles.

They expressed confidence in the government policies aimed at increasing exports, and stated that as a result of its policies, the confidence of business community had been restored and consequently economic activities increased in the country.

The prime minister said promotion of industrial activities was government's priority as it would give a boost to economy and create employment opportunities. The prime minister told exporters that the government would consider their proposals.

Earlier, the prime minister chaired a meeting to get briefing from Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on tax reforms from his special assistant Dr Waqar Masood. The prime minister said increase in tax collections was critical and there was a need to introduce technology in the tax system to ensure transparency in it.

The prime minister said special attention should be given to removal of unnecessary withholding taxes, and process for filing of returns should be simplified. He also underscored the need for a simplified tax system for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
