JAKARTA: Indonesian central bank governor Agus Martowardojo told reporters on Tuesday that the rupiah's movement so far this year was within a "fair range" and Bank Indonesia was always in the market to guard against excessive volatility.
The rupiah fell on Tuesday to 13,605 per dollar, its lowest since October amid a global equity selloff. It later recovered some of its loses to close at 13,550 to the dollar.
Martowardojo said the central bank maintained a neutral stance amid current domestic and global economic conditions.
