Watch: Cars on highway ram into each other due to smog

After Lahore got engulfed by smog, Delhi and surrounding areas are now at the mercy of smog, as it has crossed the global benchmarks of PM2.5 level that has been termed as the most dangerous pollutant in the air across the world.

Due to smog, operations at Lahore airport have been suspended while motorway has also been closed at some sections. According to local media reports, six vehicles crashed into each other on Tuesday near Pindi Bhattian, leaving one dead and six others injured. Similarly, 20 vehicles collided with each other near Faisalabad-Sial road, injuring many. Thirty flights have been affected as operations were suspended at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport.

Thick smog has also swathed Delhi, where pollution in some places has peaked to a dangerous level. “Every possible step required to tackle the situation has been already identified and the need of the hour is to put them into action,” India’s environment minister Harsh Vardhan said in a message on social network Twitter.

On Wednesday, a video surfaced on social media in which cars can be seen ramming into each other due to low visibility caused by smog. The video is of a highway in India where one after the other, speeding cars collided into each other.

Delhi has become a ‘gas chamber’, said its chief minister Arvind Kejriwal adding that his government has ordered schools to remain closed until Sunday. Citing the current situation of India’s capital, many Bollywood celebrities including Varun Dhawan, Arjun Kapoor, Parineeti Chopra and many others have expressed concern over the issue.
