The Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (Smeda) and the Commerce and Investment Department Punjab, would make integrated efforts to create new common facility centres for uplifting of SMEs in Punjab.
The Secretary, Commerce and Investment Department Punjab, Tahir Raza Naqvi called on the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Smeda, Shahid Rashid on Wednesday to overview the facilitation projects developed by the Smeda for SMEs in Punjab. The Additional Secretary, Rab Nawaz and Economic Advisor of the department, Usman accompanied Naqvi to the meeting.
The CEO, Smeda, was joined by the GM Business & Sector Development Services, Sultan Tiwana, GM, Out-Reach Operation, Syed Iqbal Anwar Kidwai, GM Policy and Planning, Jameel Afaqi, and Provincial Chief, Smeda Punjab, Alamgir Chaudhry in the discussion.
Naqvi disclosed to the meting that his department had planned to set up a Hot Water Treatment Plant in Multan for cleansing of the exportable Mangoes while a laboratory to test sports goods was also on priority lists of the projects being considered by his Ministry. He emphasised to exchange details on the projects being run and designed by the Smeda for Punjab to lay down an integrated program for facilitation of the industry by avoiding any duplication.
Rashid agreed to enhance co-ordination between the Smeda and the provincial Commerce and Investment Department for larger interest of the SMEs in Punjab. He further advised the provincial chief of Smeda to evolve an ongoing mechanism of co-ordination with the Punjab Ministry to discuss and exchange details on the projects being run by Smeda for development of SMEs in Punjab.
The CEO, Smeda further said that his organisation was setting up a Mango Pulp Plant at Multan to consume a huge quantity of non-exportable mangoes added the plant was there at the stage of completion would start operation by next year.
