A group of senior Pakistani editors, media practitioners and civil society activists Thursday left Karachi for Hyderabad Deccan, India to participate in 6th conference of the South Asian Editors' Forum being held on May 27-28.
The group includes former Federal Information Minister and co-founder of the South Asian Editors' Forum, Javed Jabbar, Kazi Asad Abid, Secretary General of All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) and Chief Editor, Ibrat group; Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami, Chief Editor daily Pakistan; former Senator Syed Fasieh Iqbal, Chief Editor, Balochistan Times, Quetta; Mahmood Shaam, Editor, Jang, Karachi; Ikram Sehgal, Chief Editor, Defence Journal; Agha Masood Hussain, columnist and anchor, ARY TV; Hamid Mir, Islamabad Bureau Chief, Geo TV; Riaz Mansuri, Chief Executive, Cricketer group of publications, Karachi and Joint Secretary of APNS; Sajjad Mir, Resident Editor, Nawa-i-Waqt, Karachi; Mrs Shabnam Jabbar, Chairperson, MNJ Communications (Pvt) Limited, Karachi; Mrs Shehla Asad Abid, Tahira Masood, Nargis Rehman, President, Karachi Women Peace Committee.
The Conference, titled "How media can promote peace and justice in South Asia?" would also be attended by senior editors and political leaders of India.
Indian Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Jaipal Reddy will inaugurate the conference. The Chief Minister and Governor of Andhra Pradesh will also be attending the inaugural and concluding sessions.
The conference will analyse the role of media in the context of current conditions and examine the implementation of various measures of co-operation agreed upon in the previous conferences.
The conference is being hosted by the first SAEF President Vijay Darda, who is also member of Rajya Sabha and Chairman of Lokmat group of newspapers, a leading newspaper group of India.
The previous SAEF conference was held in Karachi in April 2002.
