Pakistan Tobacco Board (PTB) has announced remarkable increase in the projected requirements from tobacco crop of flue-cured Virginia, dark air-cured, white patta and Burley, said a hand out of the board issued here on Wednesday. It said the projected requirements from tobacco crop 2005 of flue-cured Virginia, dark air-cured, white patta and Burley were higher by 18.98 per cent, 107.12 per cent, 120.48 per cent and 10.31 per cent as compared to production and purchases by the tobacco companies during 2004 crop.
The tobacco requirements from 2005 crop indicated by the tobacco companies, and the purpose of prior announcement of the projected requirements was to inform growers to plan tobacco production for the year 2005 crop accordingly and to avoid surplus or short crop.
The board has advised tobacco growers to plan production of tobacco crop 2005 keeping in view the aforementioned purchase targets of tobacco industry. The board has further advised the growers to execute agreements with the tobacco companies of their own choice so that no problem is encountered in its proper marketing at fair prices.
According to PTB the projected requirements from 2005 crop of four type of tobacco have been projected 59.842 million kg for Flue-cured Virginia, 1.425 million kg for dark air-cured, 2.315 million kg for white patta and 1.765 million kg for Burley.
The tobacco companies will purchase tobacco according to their indicated requirements from agreement-holders and not from 'Azad Growers'. Therefore, the board has urged on the growers not to grow tobacco without proper agreements.
