National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain has said that his role as a speaker has been impartial and he was conducting the assembly proceedings in an impartial manner, and if he acted otherwise half of the assembly members would have been out of the House. He stated this, while talking to newsmen after a seminar on Chaudhry Rehmat Ali, which was organised by Chaudhry Rehmat Ali Foundation here on Wednesday.
He said that it was the right of the opposition to protest, but creating chaos in the House would not be tolerated or permitted. "The opposition has not tabled a requisition to convene the National Assembly session, however, if such requisition was made the House would be called within 14 days after Eid," he added.
He said the opposition was welcomed to move no-confidence motion against him, but this time they would secure less votes. They should be given the opportunity to lodge their protest, but within the democratic structure. However, the opposition was acting outside the democratic norms.
Amir said that the assemblies would complete its stipulated time. On the issue of the lack of quorum in the National Assembly, he said that it was not a big issue, it occasionally occurs everywhere.
Meanwhile, while addressing the seminar, Chaudhry Amir praised Chaudhry Shujaat for committing to bring the body of Chaudhry Rehmat Ali back to Pakistan from London where he was buried, and said that all-out efforts were being made in this regard.
His body would be brought to Pakistan soon and would be buried in the home soil. "During the present PML government, Chaudhry Rehmat Ali's body would be transported to Pakistan and Kashmir would be liberated," he vowed.
He said Chaudhry Rehmat Ali not only authored the name of Pakistan, but also started the Pakistan Movement in London and stayed committed to it till his death. Federal Overseas Minister Azim Tariq, Punjab minister Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal, senior journalists and others also spoke on the occasion.
