Chairman, Sarhad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) standing committee on railway and dry port, Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi, has called for framing of consistent policy for promotion of trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
In a press release issued here on Saturday, he expressed satisfaction over cut in the negative list of Afghan transit trade and called for removal of other irritants in the way of Pak-Afghan trade as well.
He expressed the hope that recent meeting between Prime Minister Zafarullah Jamali and Afghan President Hamid Karzai would further ensure facilities to the traders of the two neighbouring countries.
Sarhadi said a lot of problems confronted by Pakistan's traders have been resolved by Afghan Trade Commissioner Amanullah Khairi and demanded the issuance of Alam-e-Khaber (list of goods) on the basis of lots.
Appreciating the measures taken for promotion of Pak-Afghan trade, he said that Pakistan Railways has cut the fare of wagon on Afghanistan-bound goods from Rs 46,000 to Rs 25,000 per wagon.
He called for appointment of Trade Liaison Officer at Afghan trade commissionerate to help resolve the problems faced by Pakistan's exporters. Expressing concern over the levy of 20 percent duty by Afghanistan on Pakistan's goods, he demanded reciprocal treatment.
