imageWhatsApp is probably one of the most popular messaging services available, due to its huge following of almost 1 billion users. The platform is regularly subjected to hoax and viruses.

‘WhatsApp Gold’ is the latest scam circulating online. According to Independent, 'WhatsApp Gold', as the name suggest comes as an apparently 'exclusive' version of the app, in order to trick unsuspecting users to download it, but in actual it infects mobiles with malware.

As per the report number of the app’s users has reported receiving messages, which urges them to sign up for the service via the WhatsApp Gold website, which is linked in the message. As per PCAdvisor, the update invitation reads, "Hey Finally Secret Whatsapp golden version has been leaked, This version is used only by big celebrities. Now we can use it too."

This Gold update claims to include an array of advanced features, claimed to be available to celebs only i.e. video calls, the ability to allow users delete messages you regretted sending and also the feature to send more than 100 pictures in one go, enhanced security features etc.

Therefore, it is for your own good that if you get any messages about upgrading your account or app to WhatsApp Gold, just delete them immediately.
