imageThe Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Government has denied the reports that it had granted honorary citizenship to West Indies skipper Darren Sammy.

According to local media reports, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mushtaq Ghani said that it was a fake Twitter account.

"This power resides with the federal government and the chief minister cannot offer an honourary citizenship," said Ghani. Ghani emphasized that the chief minister cannot make such an offer and that it had been made by a fake account impersonating Khattak on social networking site Twitter.

Earlier it had been reported that West Indies skipper and Peshawar Zalmi Player Darren Sammy has been given honorary citizenship of Pakistan.

The owner of PSL team Peshawar Zalmi, Javed Afridi had requested the government to give Sammy this status. Following the request of Javed Afridi, a Twitter handle, believed to be Pervaiz Khattak’s, announced honorary citizenship of Pakistan for the World T20 winning captain.

Without knowing the authenticity of the account, the West Indies captain Darren Sammy accepted the citizenship and further thanked him in Pashtu.

After winning the ICC World Cup T20, Sammy especially thanked Pakistani fans in Pashto. Darren Sammy was a key player of ‘Peshawar Zalmi’ during the inaugural edition of Pakistan Super League. Since then he has regularly showed his love for Pakistani fans.
