imageISLAMABAD: The Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday referred Evacuee Trust Property Board`s case to National Accountability Bureau, pertaining to award of work for construction of Parking Plaza at Lahore for probe.

The Meeting was chaired by Dr Azra Afzal Pechuho and reviewed the audit paras of Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony (Evacuee Trust Property Board) for the fiscal year 2010-11.

During the meeting, DG audit briefed the committee that Evacuee Trust awarded work for construction of Parking Plaza at Lahore and allocated an amount of Rs.185 million in the budget of 2009-10.

He said that after incurring the expenditure of Rs 66.05 million the construction of parking plaza was stopped below the Natural Surface Level (NSL) without recording any reason.

The expenditure included an amount of Rs 22,221,996 as Mobilization advance given to the contractor which was recoverable and resulted in blockage of government money amounting to Rs 66.05 million.

To this Siddique-ul-Farooq Chairman referred Evacuee Trust Property Board informed the committee that an inquiry of this matter was underway and Board would get its report on December 10.

However, the PAC also referred the matter to NAB for inquiry and demanded an action against responsible officials and contractor.

The committee also transferred few audit paras to the provincial public accounts committees because of devolution of powers to the provinces.

Earlier, Syed Khursheed Shah Chairman PAC presided the meeting and expressed displeasure over non appearance of Secretary Kashmir Affairs and remarked that Secretaries should ensure their presence in the meetings.
