ISLAMABAD: It is another feather in Dubai's cap which celebrated the start of ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 with a Guinness World Record attempt.
The 32-metre long and four-metre wide cricket bat was displayed on Monday at the ICC Academy in Dubai, Khaleej Times reported on Tuesday.
It has been created by the leading pay TVnetwork OSN for in a bid to clinch the Guinness World Record for the largest cricket bat.
As tall as an eight to 10-storey building, the `largest cricket bat' weighs a mammoth 950kg and is nearly 32 times longer than a standard cricket bat.
Placed horizontally, the bat's length is equivalent to the distance of seven cars parked bumper to bumper. In sheer proportion, it would take a player about 52.8 metres tall to wield the bat.
OSN are also backing the World Cup-bound UAE team thus the bat unveiling was also marked as a tribute to the UAE team for their second foray to the World Cup.
All the UAE players, officials and some fans put signed on the bat as symbol of good luck to the Australia-bound UAE team. The cricket bat will be on display at the ICC Academy in Dubai until the end of March.
Cricket fans will be able to write a message on the bat, expressing their support for the UAE team before they leave the UAE to travel to Australia on January 29.
"I am happy with our preparations and I have met the targets I set at the start of my stint with Emirates Cricket Board as a coach," Aqib Javed told Khaleej Times on the sidelines of the function.
"We have qualified for three World Cups (One-day, Twenty20 and U-19) and it is an achievement. We are targeting at least two victories in this World Cup," he added.
"I am confident that efforts of Aqib and other coaching staff will bear fruits," said Mohammad Tauqir, the UAE captain.
