imageKARACHI: Residents of Sultanabad and Hijrat Colony have thanked the administration for construction of pedestrian bridge, connecting the two thickly populated localities, on two different sides of the ever busy Moulvi Tamizuddin Khan Road.

Expressing their gratitude during a ceremony to open the much warranted facility they said the thoroughfare mainly frequented by trailers and other large sized vehicles had otherwise turned into a major cause of deaths and injuries to people attempting to cross the road.

Commissioner Karachi, Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui on the occasion assured the people that the administration was committed to address the needs of the people.

He said it was because of the very reason he has also inaugurated a community centre in the area, alongwith the pedestrian bridge.

Former Union Council Nazim of the area Sharif Awan drew the Commissioner's attention towards long pending projects including construction of a degree college in district South, where the population is fast multiplying.

It is for the last two years that the college project could not be completed while construction of a basic health unit (BHU) is yet to be resumed since 2008, he said.

Other notables of the area attending the ceremony drew the Commissioner's attention towards encroachment at the by-pass causing grave inconvenience to the people.

They thanked the Director of Local Bodies, Rubina Asif for taking interest in the matters related to the area and contributing to address these for good.

Commissioner Karachi, Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui assuring all support to the masses urged the notables and influential members of the community to play their role in protecting youth against unhealthy habits and practices.

He urged them to launch a community level campaign against gutka, pan, smoking sheesha and so-forth that ultimately promote addictions of severe nature.

The ceremony among others was attended by D.C - South, Saleem Rajput, Director - Local Government, Rubina Asif, Assistant Commissioner, Sajjad Abro, Media Director, Muhammad Shabih Siddiqui, Dr. Tariq Boneiri, Said Jadoon, Haji Manzoor, Nasir Boneiri, Khawja Mama, Sher Aslam Khan and others.
