imageMOSCOW: Top opposition leader Alexei Navalny on Tuesday was found guilty of slandering a municipal lawmaker and ordered to pay a hefty fine, the Twitter account of President Vladimir Putin's leading critic said.

Navalny was found guilty of calling municipal deputy Alexei Lisovenko "a lawmaker-drug addict." The Kremlin critic is also facing embezzlement charges in a separate case opening Thursday, for which he is being held under house arrest and banned from using the Internet.
