QUETTA: Quetta Police have arrested 12 suspects allegedly involved in kidnapping for ransom and other crimes on Sunday.
Addressing a press conference, CCPO Quetta Mir Zubair Mehmood said that acting on tip-off, Quetta police team raided different places and arrested different gangs involved in kidnapping people for ransom.
"One of the gang was involved in abduction of Dr. Muhammad Amin Mengal, the father of a senior government official," he said. He said that police received information that Amir Hamza, an accused imprisoned in District Jail Mastung was also involved in kidnapping Dr. Amin.
"After getting permission from the court, we interrogated the accused who provided us information about other members of the gang," he said.
He added that other gang members included Azim, Bilal, Anayat, Ali and Khair Muhammad.
He further said that the gang was also involved in kidnapping many other citizens for ransom. He said that the gang kidnapped Dr. Mengal and released him after receiving Rs 3.3 million ransom.
He said that the same gang abducted a boy from Sheikh Zaid Hospital, another boy from an area lying within PS Shalkot, a man from Brewery area and a businessman.
The CCPO said that the law enforcement agencies also arrested another gang from Killi Ismail Quetta who allegedly were involved in kidnapping of a citizen from Shehbaz Town Quetta.
