Targeted lockdown will help govt curb spread of Covid-19, says Umar
- Minister says the government will provide 2,500 oxygenated beds to the provinces by the end of July
(Karachi) Planning Minister Asad Umar has said that targeted lockdown will help the government to stop spread of coronavirus.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Thursday, he said all the provinces have been briefed about the measures being taken to curb the spread of the virus. "We hope the strategy will help us to curb the spread of Covid-19 ."
He said lockdown strategy about corona hotspots has started in Punjab, Sindh, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir, while its implementation in Balochistan will begin in one or two days.
Umar highlighted that the government will provide 2,500 oxygenated beds to the provinces by the end of July. "The National Command and Operation Centre is helping provinces with oxygenated beds," he stated.
The minister maintained that the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has expedited its registration process in order to keep up to date with new drugs being introduced as potential treatments for coronavirus.
